Mal Wrote on SDB:
"This is a description of the draconic sport I invented, and it will be a major event in my book.
Hope you all like it!
Harrwing? What the hell is that?: Harrwing, or Harr, is the most loved sport across Dracondell, and attracts more prestige and glory than any other event. Dragons appear in the thousands to cheer on their heroes and watch as breathtaking stunts are performed right before their eyes. Harrwing is one of the few sports that takes place completely in the air, and can only be played by those who are very swift of wing. It is also a very dangerous game, and many a player has been struck senseless from an outthrust flamepike , or an accidental collision. Harrwing was created by the legendary flyer Harrdin Mealichor, who to date is the greatest flyer Dracondell has ever seen. The greatest current player is Asiil M’thneral, Alpha talon of the Kella’toar Sevaar’s and the most famous player alive.
Interesting… what’s involved with Harrwing?: Harrwing games take place in large, ovular domes that have an off-shooting dome on each end. The main, center dome is known as the Clash, while the other domes are known as the Cradles. In each Cradle lies a scoring net, which is formed from a large energy net that hovers in midair. The roof, walls and floor are also made to send the bolt ricocheting at oblique and distorted angles, making it wise not to allow the bolt to stray to far.
To score in Harrwing, the bolt must be shot into the scoring net. The bolt is a small ball of white, magical lightning that enters the game through a duct in the center. The bolt can move at incredible speeds and bounces violently off any hard surface. The bolt is unable to be held without the use of a trapper.
Ok, ok, basic rules please…: Harrwing matches last for six phases, each phase lasting for 75 human minutes. In between these phases players must rest there bodies completely, for the amount of energy required to play Harr incredible, and players are always given a full Creptol (that’s a jug thingy) of sordissna (A health beverage), one serving of odeni (a fruit that prevents fatigue and tiredness) and another of chealimurr (A strength restoring herb that is pumped full of magical properties) during this period, and have to be completely waited upon. In Harrwing, players may tackle, throw, grapple, trip and push other players if need be, and one warning will be issued when a player smacks, hits, bites or claws, and will be disqualified the next time. But anyone seen attacking a player without reason, holding an opponent down, or causing serious harm to another player is immediately disqualified. No player may touch the roof or floor at any time during a phase, and this will result in disqualification as well. Players may not move more than two wingspans while holding the bolt in a trapper, otherwise a penalty shot will be taken, and the same applies if they spend 10 human seconds doing nothing while in possession of the bolt. Also, players must remain in their designated area at all times, and penalties are given for attempting to break this rule, the only exception to this is the Alpha talons, who are allowed to be wherever they choose. When the game begins though, the alpha talon of each team must stay above all but the Sky Edgers, and when the center duct opens, the bolt fires out, and it is a test of speed and reflexes to see which one can reach the bolt first and hit it back toward their team. Winners are determined by the number of points scored.
What equipment do the players use?: Trappers: Trappers are small devices that are implanted into specific regions of a player’s equipment, when the bolt makes contact with a trapper; a small field of energy is generated to hold it. The controls for a trapper are linked magically to its users mind, so that the individual can release the bolt in their desired direction. Tampering with this mental link can result in disqualification from the game.
Rebounders: Flank Edgers, Mantle Edgers and Sky Edgers use a rebounder, which is a flat surfaced device that is attached to clawmounts. Rebounders are used to ricochet the bolt in a desired direction, and are able to propel it much faster than normal.
Flamepikes: Flame pikes are long staffs that are wielded by fire talons only. Flame pikes have two uses, catching and throwing the bolt, and hampering other players. Flamepikes have a built in trapper in each end, and once caught a player can swing them around and propel the bolt wherever they wish. Flamepikes can also be used as a weapon, but are only to be used to trip or push other players, and anyone caught hitting other players will be dealt with harshly.
Flamerods: Flame rods are exactly the same as flame pikes, except they are slightly smaller and are dual wielded by the Defender talons.
Storm shields: Storm shields are large full body shields that are wielded by the lightning talons. The shield is constructed much like a large rebounder, and is very effective for blocking an opponent’s shot. Storm shields are also used in an offensive manner, and are widely used to ‘charge’ the other players and push them away. It is illegal to attack other players with storm shields for they cause serious damage.
Lerpis: A Lerpis is a military weapon that has also been modified for use in Harr. Dual wielded by Royal talons, Lerpis’s are a large claw mount that are able to project deadly, magical energy with which to kill quite efficiently. In Harr, Lerpis’s have been modified so that they are no longer are dangerous, but are able to project enough energy to ‘push’ other players around quite powerfully and are extremely useful when it comes to holding a position for a moment or two, and are incredible defensive devices.
Grid generator: Grid generators, like the Lerpis, were originally used for war, and are wielded by the Grid talons. Grid generators are complex and unique clawmounts that, when activated, project a flat net of magical energy over a fairly large area, and the net is as hard as solid metal. Grid talons use them to deflect shots taken at the net and cause the bolt to fly back out into the clash.
Semsteth armour: Semsteth is a lightweight substance that is very similar to plastic, but much harder and durable. Semsteth armour is used by Harrwing players for protection, and is admired for its impressive lightweight. Although initially black, Semsteth is coloured to represent the different team colours and symbols, so no confusion is caused.
Orkansines: Harrwing players need certain implants to be able to move as fast as required. Orkansines are small, enhancing implants that are attached to certain muscles of the draconic body, in particular those at the base of the wings. They provide a slight boost in strength, speed and stamina. Without Orkansines, Players would be unable to play efficiently and would waste more vital energy.
Alpha beacons: Only issued to the Alpha talons, the beacons are multi coloured lights located on the tip of each wing, and are applied for the purpose of distinguishing the Alpha talon from the rest of the team. This is so players need not look hard for instruction and the crowd can see their favourites more clearly.
Alphandorrs: Alphandorrs are the many attachments applied to the Alpha talons and the Striker talons. They are incredibly advanced equipment, and combine both a trapper and a rebounder in one device. Alpha talons have them attached via clawmounts, feet and tails, this enables them to use their entire body for the game and gives them a distinct advantage over the other players. Striker talons bear much the same, but do not have one on their tail.
Viltren scopes: There was once a very angry Harr player named Viltren Porlgaez who suffered a serious injury and had to be removed from the game for a period. He became infuriated because he found that when watching the game, it was very hard to follow what was happening. So he endeavored to discover a means to combat this. He eventually developed ‘Viltren Scopes’, which were placed over the eyes and enhanced a dragons already keen sense of sight. Today, there isn’t a Harr game without them.
What are the positions?: Harrwing consists of two teams of 27 players: 6 Fire Talons 4 Lightning Talons 2 Royal Talons 4 Flank Edgers 2 Sky Edgers 2 Mantle Edgers 2 Defender talons 2 Striker talons 2 Grid talons 1 Alpha talon
Fire talons: The grunts of the team, fire talons are the most basic position in Harr and are positioned in the clash. Fire talons wear medium semsteth armour and wield Flamepikes. Fire talons make up the bulk of the team along with the lightning talons and are assigned to fill an aggressive role in the game
Lightning talons: Just above the Fire talons in stature, Lightning talons are positioned in the clash. Lightning talons wear medium semsteth armour and are equipped with a storm shield and a clawmount with a built-in trapper. Lightning talons make up the main bulk of the team along with Fire talons, and are assigned to fill a rather more defensive role
Royal talons: An elite position usually given to the more skillful players on the team. Royal talons wear heavy Semsteth armour and wield a Lerpis on each claw. Royal talons are assigned as a rock hard offensive/defensive role and make up the muscle of in the clash.
Flank edgers: Flank edgers are the most basic of all the Edgers. They are equipped with light semsteth armour and rebounder clawmounts. Flank Edgers are restricted to the immediate area near the walls of the clash, Flank Edgers are assigned for strategic play and also to prevent the bolt from hitting the wall, a well positioned Flank edger can significantly change the outcome of a phase.
Sky Edgers: Sky Edgers are a difficult role to play. They are almost exactly the same as Flank Edgers, bearing the same gear and roles, but they are only allowed within the immediate vicinity of the roof of the clash. As this is a much larger area, Sky Edgers must be able to determine where the bolt is likely to go by carefully reading the game. Sky Edgers wear light semsteth armour and rebounder clawmounts. They are assigned for special tactics and various stratagems
Mantle Edgers: The partners of the Sky Edgers, Mantle Edgers are only considered only slightly more skilled than Sky Edgers. Mantle Edgers wear light semsteth armor and wield rebounder clawmounts. Mantle Edgers are located at floor level, and must take the risk of skimming the floor to prevent the bolt from hitting it. Like the Sky Edgers, Mantle Edgers must read the game carefully to determine their next move, and are assigned for a strategic role.
Defender talons: Defender talons are the first line of defense in the cradle, and must prevent the bolt from hitting the net. Defender talons wear medium semsteth armor, and dual wield two flamerods. Defender talons are restricted to the cradle, and are assigned to defend the net, providing excellent protection.
Striker talons: Striker talons are the main point scorers, and must be able to get past both the Defender talons and the Grid talons, so they are usually chosen from the most agile of players. Striker talons wear light Semsteth armour and bear Alphandorrs on their feet and claws. Striker talons are assigned as goal shooters and as such, must remain within the cradle.
Grid talons: Grid talons are the last defense for the goal net, and have to try with all their might to prevent their opponents from scoring. Grid talons are chosen from those with exceptional claw-eye coordination, and they must have quick reflexes to be able to block the bolt and at the same time ensure that it doesn’t fall back into the claws of their opponents. Grid talons wear light Semsteth armor and wield two generators Grid talons must remain within the vicinity of the goal net, and are assigned as the chief defenders for a team.
The Alpha talon: The Alpha talon is the team leader, the crowd’s hero, and the best player of the team. They earn the most reverence and often have their names chanted to them, and exceptional players are documented and may even have a statue made for them. They are the highest rank among any team, and can only be bested by another. Alpha talons wear medium semsteth armour and bear Alphandorrs on their clawmounts, feet and their tail. Alpha talons are the only players allowed complete access to all areas of the game, and are able to give orders to their comrades in mid play. Chosen from those with the greatest skills, Alpha talons are assigned as the captains, and their word is final.
Thanks anyone who bothered to read all of this... I am completely open to any questions, views and ideas you might have.
Also... if anyone knows Asiil, I didnt steal her name! I gave her name to a character for a favor, and she would like to let everyone know that although her and her character share the same name and colour, they are completely different."

I'd take the alpha talon position if I could myself. ooo I can just imagine the action I'd get. Get to play with physics. Knowing me I'd find ways to bend the rules to it's absolute limits. lol
